There are a variety of roles within the profession, all of which are crucial in the process of helping clients view their future with confidence. Back office roles also provide an excellent opportunity to better understand and experience the financial advice process in practice as you undertake your Professional Year (PY).

CLIENT SERVICES OFFICER

A Client Services Officer works closely with financial advisers and planners to ensure clients receive high-quality service. They act as a liaison between clients and the financial planning team, providing administrative and operational support to maintain efficient service delivery.

High school or Cert IV in Financial Services

PARAPLANNER

Paraplanners are vital for handling administrative and technical tasks for advisers. They assist in preparing financial plans, conducting research and ensuring compliance with regulations. By managing behind-the-scenes responsibilities, paraplanners enable financial planners to focus on building relationships with clients and providing strategic advice.

High school or Advanced Diploma of Paraplanning

ASSOCIATE PLANNER OR JUNIOR FINANCIAL PLANNER

An Associate Financial Planner provides support to senior financial planners by preparing financial plans, conducting research, and liaising with clients. This role is ideal for those aiming to become fully qualified financial planners while benefiting from the mentorship from more experienced professionals.

FINANCIAL PLANNER OR SENIOR FINANCIAL ADVISER

Financial Advisers work directly with clients to create personalised financial plans that help them achieve their goals, such as retirement planning, saving for education, or buying a home. Advisers assess clients' financial situations, recommend investment strategies, and provide ongoing guidance.

OFFICE/PRACTICE MANAGER

An office/practice manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of a financial planning practice, ensuring that everything runs smoothly and efficiently. This varies, however, often includes administrative tasks, project management, HR tasks and facility management.

BUSINESS OWNER

A financial planning business owner is often a current or previous financial planner who has progressed to running their own practice. They are responsible for overseeing the operations, strategy and overall success as well as over seeing financial management, marketing, hiring and strategic planning.
